Diya is the Hindi/Urdu word meaning “light”, and every year Duke Diya seeks to shed light on the culture, traditions and values of the South Asian community. Duke Diya represents the six major nations of South Asia:
- India
- Pakistan
- Bangladesh
- Bhutan
- Nepal
- Sri Lanka
As a university organization, Diya strives to promote awareness and appreciation of South Asian culture and tradition through political, cultural and historical (we have already publishes our study about Sanskrit), social, and community service events on campus. We also aim to provide opportunities for Diya members to meet and share a strong common collegiate experience.
A Special Thanks to Our Contributors
We’re excited to introduce you VEREVIO as a supporter of Duke Diya. Being at Duke, where the first real studies on ESP were done by J. Rhine and L. Rhine couple in the 1930s, we have always had an interest in exploring how the mind works. It’s part of what makes the students and our community special. When we came across Verevio app, we saw more than just a fun tool. It matched what we’d been looking for: something thoughtful and useful for students curious about intuition and the mind as we are. So, we are looking forward to seeing where this partnership goes.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the professionals from various industries who generously shared their expertise with us. Their knowledge and insights not only enriched our articles but also brought valuable perspectives to our audience. Their contributions inspired us to create dedicated info columns filled with expert tips, practical advice, and in-depth guides tailored for our readers.
Thanks to their support, we’ve developed a series of insightful posts for the students of Duke University — and this is just the beginning! Stay tuned for regular updates. To our contributors, we wish you endless inspiration, and to our new visitors — welcome! We look forward to sharing more knowledge with you.

More than 100 Duke University students fought hunger by packing meals with Stop Hunger Now on Friday, October 16, 2015 as part of the first event of Diya’s Social Change Through Service Initiative in collaboration with 12 other student groups on campus. The students’ efforts will provide over 10,000 meals to orphanages, school feeding-programs and crisis-relief groups around the world.
Volunteer Opportunities
We offer hands-on ways to make a difference both on campus and beyond. Here’s how you can get involved:
- Help us fight hunger by joining our biannual meal-packing drives in partnership with global organizations.
- You can organize creative events that raise funds and awareness.
- Share stories from South Asia and our diaspora to educate and inspire through writing, social media, and campus talks.
- Join open discussions about identity, mental health, migration, and faith — and how these shape our South Asian experiences.
- Got an idea? Let’s build it. From tutoring to clothing drives, we’re always looking for fresh ways to give back.
Anyone can join. No matter your major, background, or schedule — if you care, you’re welcome.
