Welcome Class of 2017!
We hope you are loving your time at Duke! We know you’ve been overwhelmed with information about opportunities and student-groups, but we want to let you know about one more…. Duke Diya, Duke’s South Asian student organization! Every year, thousands of Duke students come out to Diya-sponsored events, including Awaaz, the largest student-run production on campus; social mixers that give Diya members a chance to mingle with other Dukies and even students from NC State and UNC; and several events for freshmen to bond with one another and network with upperclassmen.
One of these first year-specific events includes the annual BigSib/LittleSib program. In this program, we match first-year students with Diya upperclassmen at the beginning of the year, based on mutual interests expressed in short surveys. The goal of the BigSib/LittleSib program is to help first years transition to life at Duke and help establish lasting relationships between first-years and more experienced peer mentors. As a way to help foster these relationships, Diya will be hosting several BigSib/LilSib activities as the year goes on.
BigSib surveys have already been distributed via our weekly DiyaMails. We will be distributing LittlelSib surveys for first years during the first few weeks of the semester, so find us at the Activities Fair for more info! All matches will be announced at the BigSib/LilSib Reveal Dinner on September 18!
