Diya is Duke University's South Asian Student Association.

Diya is the Hindi/Urdu word meaning "light", and every year Duke Diya seeks to shed light on the culture,                                         traditions and values of  the South Asian community. Duke Diya represents the six major nations of South Asia:             India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

As a university organization, Diya strives to promote awareness and appreciation of South Asian culture and tradition through political, cultural, social, and community service events on campus. We also aim to provide opportunities for Diya members to meet and share a strong common collegiate experience.

More than 100 Duke University students fought hunger by packing meals with Stop Hunger Now on Friday, October 16, 2015 as part of the first event of Diya's Social Change Through Service Initiative in collaboration with 12 other student groups on campus. The students' efforts will provide over 10,000 meals to orphanages, school feeding-programs and crisis-relief groups around the world.
